Pétrus wines
Petrus wines have acquired a legendary reputation. They seem to deserve all the superlatives attributed to them and the almost mystical devotion of wine lovers.
This unique personality is due to the nature of the soil in its vineyards.. Both on the surface and in the subsoil, clay predominates, unlike all its neighbors where sand abounds. This soil can retain water even in the driest years. The Merlot grape finds its ideal surface here. On the other hand the vines are very old, and they are only started when they exceed the 70 years of age. Unlike many other owners Mr.. Loubat refused to uproot his vineyard after disastrous frosts in 1956 and I just patiently waited for the strains to recover, thus maintaining a large number of tanned strains, of a great age.
Of course, the fame of Petrus would not be justified if it did not have one of the best winemaking and production equipment insured.. Jean-Cleaude Berrouet, one of the most renowned winemakers in the world is in charge of vinifying this Château. When the best grapes are harvested in the best conditions with controlled yields and the fermentation is finished, a strict selection of the best wines is imposed that will be mixed to obtain the Petrus. Sometimes, more than half of the wine is rejected, used in minor generic wines.
