Rioja

Rioja is a qualified Designation of origin (DOCa) of Spain with which to distinguish certain wines produced in areas of the autonomous communities of La Rioja and the Basque Country mainly, and, to a lesser extent in Navarra and Castile and Leon, (less than 2,5 km2). By the diverse orographic and climatic there are three sub-areas of production —Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa— where originate the wines of different characteristics. The average annual production of Rioja wine is of 250 millions of litres (85% red wine and 15% white wine and rosé). Rioja wines are fresh, aromatic, well balanced composition and excellent bouquet.
