The winery

Old Castle Certan It is one of the oldest properties in Pomerol. The history of the estate dates back to mid 1700 when it was founded by Jean Demay of Certan. The original château was built near 1770.

The Demay of were well known for their work in the Bordeaux wine trade. They were successful negociants and wine merchants. Wines from what is now known as Vieux Chateau Certan were originally sold under the name Sertan. Vieux Chateau vineyards Certan were much larger in its infancy, but the property was divided after the French Revolution that gave rise to Certan of May and several other châteaux still using the name in its title Certan.
